I Was Told to Write an About Me and This is What Happened

"Each time I'm asked to tell about myself, I find myself starting the same way: 'My name is Kelsey and I'm ninteen..."
but what I'd really like to say is:
'My name means island of the ships but once
I found a translation that said I'm a burning shipwreck-
not a burning ship but a ship that has caught fire
after the wreckage and well, I'd say that's more fitting.'

I've learned that people don't have time for 'about me's'.
They need two things: a name and an indication you're someone special.

The doctors, they want facts not details.
'I broke my leg when I was three, it's a funny story actually-'
The right or the left?
Conversation over.

The teachers, they want interests, hobbies.
You're sad, yes, but what do you like to do?

The adults are a spew of questions.
What school do you go to? What classes are you taking?
What do you plan on becoming? Got a boyfriend?
No, stop.

People my own age are the worst.
'I'm planning on an English degree with a concentration in creative writing.'
Yeah, aren't we all. So how many times have you, you know, done it?

I'm pulled apart, my interests traveling highway 2
my goals at a stop light at traffic hour,
my medical history on a billboard for the world to see.
But what about me?

Where's the chance to say,

'I hang on to fistfuls of poetry like loose change in my pockets,
and I keep waiting for the day that the world turns upside down
so I can swim with the stars.
I'm not afraid of darkness, it's a loneliness I can empathise with.
It's the black-holes like cigarette burns inside of me that get troublesome.
I wak through graveyards and read the dashes between years,
each a story I'll never know. Sometimes I create my own.'

No wonder none of us know who we are anymore. "

I've been feeling particularly weary these days. Though I'm generally a positive person, it is sometimes difficult for me to get out of a funk. I don't quite know how to articulate my feelings because it seems unfair to say that I'm unhappy or discontent - but I'm not particularly happy or content either at the moment.

Conquering Gillman in a day

Haven't had much time to update lately because I've been so exhausted after work, and it takes some effort to select and edit photographs. I'm a little tired so I'm just going to let the photographs do the talking for now, this was last weekend when we conquered all the galleries at Gillman Barracks!

Taiwanese lunch before our journey to fuel up!

Took a nice nap on the way here, the sun was blazing!

One of my favourite things to do is to visit galleries with this one <3

Such a qt :3

Gallery that Kanika works at!

These flowers really brightened up the entire place!

NTU CCA gallery

Took a snack break at Timbre which was basically a mosquito breeding farm. There were coils everywhere but the mosquitos were relentless, we kept getting bites and looked so deathly afraid that the staff offered us mosquito stickers and repellent. Those helped a lot but we still got additional bites, god... it was a tumultuous snack break, hahahaha.

Ended off the day by visiting bunnies at BPP!

Gentle Paws

The previous Sunday, we travelled all the way into the depths of Pasir Ris to visit and volunteer at Gentle Paws! It was my first time volunteering at an animal shelter so I was pretty stoked. Most of the dogs there were extremely friendly though a couple were more "dangerous", nothing too scary though. It was so lovely being around animals with so much love. Walked a couple of them and was so exhausted by the end of the afternoon. So so worth it though!

Long bus ride to the farm area.

Crazy number of kitties everywhere, just chilling.

My qtpie with heaps of other qtpais. At the time of this picture, the two in front of him were play fighting, lol.

During a brief moment of calm.

Two of the tiniest puppies who were more timid and kept to themselves indoors.

Last two that we walked together, Xiao Bai and Emily! They're both slightly older dogs and have been together for a long time. Both are alpha dogs but love each other, it's so strangely sweet.

After all the dog-walking, we went to a nearby fish farm which was the only place that sold drinks and other stuff. Hydrated and then left.

Had a pretty satisfying meal after that and then took another long journey home to pass out.

Night at the Museum

Last weekend we went to check out the rest of the SAM exhibits and then caught the movie screening at NMS. It was a pretty amazing day/night - not much expenditure, amazing exhibits, great company, good movie (though it was French and the subtitles were difficult to read because there were tall people in front of us, haha) <3

Bumped into the sister otw out.

Finally went to try the breakfast set at this place, I forgot the name for now, but it's owned by ex-shatec students and the food is amaaaaazing. Reasonable/comparatively cheap too, major thumbs up.

I love the corridors at SAM (and really, the corridors of most spacious and clean looking museums. Something about clean colours and lines :3)

Artist invites public to write personal letters to him, each chosen letter is replied with a mixed tape.

Caught a rather surreal film screening. I wasn't too sure what to make of it though.

But it was still a great experience because they had these awesomely comfy beanbags, hehe.

My darling <3

The museum store had loads of kitschy and adorable looking memorabilia.

Next stop, NMS!

Finished the rest of the Singapura 700 Years, mostly at the archeology area.

Headed out to the lawn early to hang out and rest before the screening! We brought loads of drinks and grapes and pizza and chips so it was nice and chill.

Just as the evening got started, the moon peaked out at us. It was so pretty, I was delighted.

The night was extremely windy so we had a nice time cuddling. Stayed a little longer after the movie to just hang out and look at the beautiful sky, I love my weekends with this boy :3
