JB Day Trip

A couple of weekends ago, a bunch of us headed across the border to JB for a day of fun. Since the ringgit has been rather weak of the late, we thought it'd be a good opportunity to have some cheap massages and good food. Our journey in photographs:

Woke up bright and early and set off from Kranji terminal!

 Lol I love this photograph.

Mad traffic jam as expected, the bus dropped us off a hundred metres or so before the Singapore customs so that we could get there on foot.

We thought this was bad, but coming home was worse, haha.

After about an hour of queuing and waiting and queueing and waiting, we finally arrived at JB! We went in search of the famous Kam Long Curry Fishhead! It's located along the street opposite City Square Mall. Just take the escalators to the basement and take the exit beside the Machines store (Malaysia's version of our Apple store). You will pass by a bank before getting out, cross the road and the place is just the 3rd or 4th shop down.

Queued for about 45mins, it was only around 11.15am when we arrived but there was already a healthy and steady queue. This was us when we reached the head of the line.

Bahahahahah boredom.

Fooooooooooooood. It's not really my kinda thing, but the rest loved it.

Excited little puppy

Done devouring all the food :3

Hahahaha hilarious ad for erectile dysfunction treatment.

Happy bunch!

Little tubs, hehehe. We were heading downstairs City Square Mall to try some amazing sorbet/popsicle but found that the store had closed down. So we made our way over by cab (if you go by meter it's about 8-10ringgit) to KSL mall. In my opinion, there were more things to see and buy there for young people, as compared to City Square which had more lifestyle items for sale such as mattresses/lights etc.

Amazing hello kitty accessory store in KSL, woohoo. The entire mall is filled with tiny phone and electronic accessories like this, as well as food and fashion.

Shopping time! This store sold everything at 15RM flat, it was amazing.

We had booked a full body massage prior to our visit. This is Thai Odyssey at KSL Mall, they have a website which is easily google-able. Their rates are pretty competitive, especially for the high standard they provide. Extremely clean and calming with professional staff. We got a 90mins full body aromatherapy massage and it cost us about 162RM (approx S$56.25), not expensive at all when you compare it to the rates in Singapore for a high end massage parlour.

Beautiful waiting area.

Had our feet washed before entering the room.

We chose the ones with the floor mattresses because it's supposed to be better...? I'm not sure what's the rationale, haha.

Tried some famous 5RM penang Lakas at the mall's basement, it was surprisingly good!

Ended our night at Soon Soon Heng BKT. It can be found at the street opposite KSL mall. Simply go down to the basement and take the exit near the store that sells youtiao. You'll see it right across the road.

This was some next level stuff. The BKT is of the herbal variety but the herbal taste is not overpowering, in fact, the soup is extremely flavourful and yet somehow light at the same time -> freaking amazing. You can order different sizes, we got a 5 person portion with sides. The sides are quite different from the ones you get in Singapore. Apart from the usual intestines, youtiao, salted vegetables and other organs, they had amazing shiz like: enoki mushrooms, button mushrooms, clams (WTF???), beancurd, meatballs and loads more. Because our extras wouldn't fit in the same pot at the BKT, they were placed in another pot of soup. Trust me when I say that it was ammmmaaaaaazing <3

Time for us to head back to the border! We were actually mad exhausted.

The nightmare that was customs. We queued for another hour or so before clearing Malaysian customs and catching the bus back to the SG border. Things moved a little quicker on that end but there were still a couple of complications. Nevertheless, it was such a lovely weekend. I'm not sure if I'd do it again so soon because the tendency is to spend a lot more money in a day than I would ordinarily, if we're in a foreign place - especially when the exchange rate is so good. The process of coming back home is also pretty tedious, so... I don't know. Maybe in a month or so, to get our hair coloured or something, they have amazing rates for that too :P
