Chinese New Year has become less and less of a fun thing in the recent years. We have a rather large extended family but we aren't particularly close to many of them so things are actually kind of quiet and lonely whenever this time rolls around. It doesn't help that most people are usually busy during this period so sometimes it feels a little odd. Still, it was nice to meet up with some long lost relatives whom we only see once a year:
During the eve of the official CNY celebration, it is a tradition for whole extended families to gather for a reunion dinner. Not everyone does this because it can be difficult logistically/the families may not be that close. We just had a simple steamboat at home.
Just the four of us!
Day 1: Following the tradition of presenting oranges and well wishes to our parents and then receiving red packets in return. We're actually not big on following traditions and are 0% superstitious but we still do this every year lol.
Got myself a cheongsam from Malacca during our family trip earlier in the year. I was pretty excited because I've never owned one before and they're pretty expensive in Singapore. This one wasn't a perfect fit but it only cost me $30!
Testing our selfie stick lol.
Complete family portrait :3
With granny pie.
Another CNY tradition: Longevity noodles (longevity represented by the long noodles lolol. I forgot what the eggs mean).
Little bae turned up in a cute cheongsam herself.
Getting very restless waiting for people to come and go.
We escaped upstairs for a short reprieve.
After all the guests left (there were very few compared to what I hear from my other Chinese friends who have to entertain/relative house hop for the entire day till night), I escaped to Holland to meet Sam for dinner.
Bumped into this qt having dinner with her parents (she was in our BFFsg video and was an absolute delight)!
Mad craving for some western food, two days of excessive Chinese shizzle and I was done.
I don't even remember this but wow, what a triumphant win hahahahah.
Yum Cha on second day of CNY.
All we have is each other.
Uhm, basically this marks the end of all our celebrations hahahaha. Not too big on Chinese stuff, bye-bye.
