Norwegian Wood

"But who can say what's best? That's why you need to grab whatever chance you have of happiness where you find it, and not worry about other people too much. My experience tells me that we get no more than two or three chances in a life time, and if we let them go, we regret it for the rest of our lives."

 Haruki Murakami

It's always difficult to answer whenever someone asks, "what is your favourite book?", or "who is your favourite author?" For a lot of people who don't read passionately or don't understand the need to read for nourishment, it's baffling when one cannot quite give an exact answer.

Yet, if I were really pushed to a corner, I'd say that Murakami wins the race hands down for me. Because though I try my best to enrich the scope of the literature I read, the fact remains that accessible literature is always a pleasurable experience to me. And Murakami does it in such an exquisite way - he assembles unspectacular words into most delightful sentences that breathes life into every single page. He captures raw human emotions in a way that makes you go, "Yes, this is exactly how I feel. It sounds so simple, but I could never have explained it in this way until I read this."

About 50% of my favourite literary quotes belong to Murakami, this is just one of many.
