Written on the Body

"When I say 'I will be true to you', I am drawing a quiet space beyond the reach of other desires. No one can legislate love; it cannot be given orders or cajoled into service. Love belongs to itself, deaf to pleading and unmoved by violence. Love is not something you can negotiate. Love is the one thing stronger than desire and the only proper reason to resist temptation."

- Jeanette Winterson

Winterson is a literary goddess. I finished reading this piece 3 weeks back and have since moved on to 2-3 other novels, but it still haunts me as I'm going through other books. I'm currently enjoying Levithan's "The Lover's Dictionary", which is an amazingly easy read but heartrending with such effortless grace. As both are about love and the intricacies and complications about close human relationships, I find them intertwined in my mind. The emotional honesty is breathtaking, it catches you by surprise.
